Montgomery is a cosmopolitan city, from its famous Shakespeare festival to its symphony orchestra to the F. Scott Fitzgerald Museum, and there is always a lot going on. Visitors should check with the Arts Council before coming so they can plan ahead which of the many activities they will try to attend.

Montgomery's spans the centuries. Martin Luther King preached here from 1954 to 1960, and there is a stirring monument to Civil Rights movement. In the 1860s, Montgomery was a part of the Confederacy and the first Confederate White House still stands. Old Montgomery proudly dates structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The State Archives and Museum is filled with artifacts from prehistory to the present. Montgomery is justifiably proud of its history, and the many aspects of that history have united to form a strong cultural identity. Visitors to Montgomery will have no trouble immersing themselves in its history.
